Preparing The Front Cover Image

For my magazine front cover I took multiple images as seen above, of various subject within the college. I ended up using two of these images for the front cover. Below is the original image and the image after I touched it up a little bit on Photoshop.

The main image for my student magazine cover.

The image after adjusting the contrast and output looks more details and refined. I also cropped a little around the edge of the image because I didn't need some of the background that was in the original photo. For the front cover image I made sure I used a medium close up which is from the torso upwards. The reason I did this was following on from typical conventions used by most magazines.

The original second image I used for my front cover and the image after Photoshop

Using Photoshop for this image I not only used the contrast and out levels adjustments, but I cut out the image of my subject from the background to put onto my own plain white background. I didn't this because I didn't want the original background behind the subject because it wouldn't fit in with my colour theme on the front cover of the student magazine.

I used the Polygonal lasso tool to cut around the subject, making sure I got as close as I could around the edge out my subject. I then used the refined edge brush to mope up any of the original background that still showed. After that I simply copied the image onto a new layer which gave me a professional looking cut out image ready to use for my front cover.
